A Great Time At Rossi's Blue Star Room With Starting Point

Starting Point’s Thursday and Friday at Rossi’s Blue Star Room went very well indeed. Craig Eichorn (formerly of KBEM radio and the current sound engineer at The Dakota Bar and Grill) was running sound for us both nights, and by all accounts it was sounding good. Thanks to all of you that signed up on our mailing list. It is Much Appreciated. And I hope to see you again in the near future.

Famous Dave's A Jazz/Rock Extravaganza!

Starting Point’s Famous Daves debut went very well. It was nice to see some familiar faces and make a few new friends, as well. A Big “Thank You” to all that signed up on our email list. The lucky winner of our contest must be a fan because she passed on the marvelous Free Trade Organic coffee and opted for the Starting Point demo CD instead. Come on out, sign up and have a chance to win. (Either delicious whole bean coffee or a Starting Point CD, your choice)

We even had some friends sit in on a couple rock and blues tunes. A good time was had by all.

Stop on out to Marysburg sometime and give a listen or bring your instrument and sit in on a tune or two. Singers are welcome as well…

Peace

Joy's Big Night a Success

Joy’s Jazz Debut went great last night at Marysburg. Joy brought out a good crowd of family, friends and supporters. It was fun playing with Tom West and company, and the band sounded good for our first time playing together. Joy did a great job, and plans are in the works for an upcoming date, so keep on the look out…

Cynthia Johnson (of “Funkytown” fame) came out and sat in with the band as well. She showed off her jazz chops for the people on a swinging “Bye Bye Blackbird”.

Tonight I will be playing with “Starting Point” at Famous Dave’s in Calhoun Square. It is our first time there, so stop out and lend your support to Live Jazz in the Twin Cities!

Kirby Puckett Sits in at Mancini's Steak House

Hall of Famer, Kirby Puckett came out last night to Mancini’s in St Paul and asked to sit in with The Midas Touch. I was pleasantly surprised by his voice. He sang “It’s A Wonderful World”, which was made famous by Louis Armstrong. Needless to say the audience loved it and wanted an encore so… At Kirby’s request, we did… Wonderful World… AGAIN(!?!)

He did seem to enjoy himself, and liked my playing… “You’re awesome, dawg” (that means he liked me, right?)

Stop out any time Kirby, just learn one more song for that inevitable encore. Tonight I’ll be playing for “Joy Divine’s” jazz performance debut. Stop out and give her your support.

Peace

''Hello'' and ''Peace'' To ALL

Hello, I’m glad you stopped by. Thanks for showing some interest in me and what I am doing. This site is new and I hope you enjoy looking around a bit. Feel free to make comments and suggestions and Please Sign My Guest Book. It will be nice to see who is stopping by. I have more room here than at my home, so make yourself comfortable.

I will attempt to put up new things on a somewhat regular basis. The schedule will be updated and more photos will be put up from time to time. I also will add some Audio VERY soon. (I hope, I’m less than stellar with computers etc)

I may also post a few rants here. If you are offended by strong opinions, please use the titles of the posts to be forewarned.

As an artist I need to react emotionally to my surroundings. As an intelligent, thinking human, I need to respond to ignorance, injustice and prejudices. I will try to use both of these aspects of my being in my observations and opinions…. I allow you your opinions.

To this I will add…PEACE, and to the best of your abilities, Please practice The Golden Rule.

Solo Guitar/ Opening For Gato Barbieri

I enjoyed playing before another “blast from my past”, Gato Barbieri’s show at Rossi’s Blue Star Room. His growling sax style has been borrowed by plenty of today’s smooth jazz sax players. It is nice to see and hear an original…

Opening A Show for Louie Anderson

I opened a show last night for comedian Louie Anderson. It was a beautiful day in Minneapolis, but just as we finished our set, it began to rain. I left early to ensure my guitar/gear remained safe and dry. I hope Louie managed to do the same. (stay dry…)

Performing at Orchestra Hall, I run into Doc Severinsen...

I had the opportunity to perform at the beautiful Orchestra Hall, in downtown Minneapolis for their 24 Hours of Music Event. I have played this event before, playing outside in Peavey Plaza on the main stage with Best Kept Secret. This time it was a more intimate affair, inside performing with Will Hale for “kids of all ages”.
As I finished bringing in my gear, I hear the familiar “pppfft” of a trumpet player getting his chops together. Imagine my surprise when I looked and it was none other than Doc Severinsen of Johhny Carson’s Tonight show. We exchanged a few words and I found out he was playing 2 shows there with a band he brought up from Mexico, where he has moved in his “retirement”. Always a pleasant surprise to meet someone you’ve listened to many times over the years.
So… How do you get to Orchestra Hall? Practice, son, practice…
